The Central Bank of Iran stated that decisions regarding the prioritization of foreign currency allocation for imports rest solely with the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade (MIMT).
The Central Bank has clarified that it has no role in the recent decision to remove over 4,500 categories of goods from the list eligible for government-subsidized currency. According to the bank, the government determines which goods receive priority. Following an agreement between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Industry, only 66 industrial items are now eligible for currency from the Exchange Center at a rate of 189,000 Tomans. Importers of other goods must now source currency from exporters at negotiated rates, which currently range between 253,000 and 257,000 Tomans.
